چکیده

This project involved the study of Brownian motion of polystyrene microspheres in the presence of gravity and a one-dimensional sinusoidal optical potential generated by the interference of two laser beams. An exponential relationship was observed between applied laser power and particle residence time of individual interference fringes. Increasing laser power also revealed a wider distribution of residence times and a more narrow distribution of displacements from the t = 0 position. These observations were confirmed using finitedifference time-domain (FDTD) computer

Synthesis of Polystyrene–Polyphenylsiloxane Janus Particles through Colloidal Assembly with Unexpected High Selectivity: Mechanistic Insights and Their Application in the Design of Polystyrene Particles with Multiple Polyphenylsiloxane Patches

Janus particles are of great research interest because of their reduced symmetry, which provides them with unique physical and chemical properties. Such particles can be prepared from spherical structures through colloidal assembly. Whilst colloidal assembly has the potential to be a low cost and scalable process, it typically lacks selectivity. As a consequence, it results in a complex mixture...

High pressure inertial focusing for separation and concentration of bacteria at high throughput

Inertial focusing is a phenomenon where particles migrate across streamlines in microchannels and focus at well-defined, size dependent equilibrium points of the cross section. It can be taken into advantage for focusing, separation and concentration of particles at high through-put and high efficiency. As particles decrease in size, smaller channels and higher pressures are needed. Hence, new ...

Determination of the size distribution of monodesperse and bidisperse mixtures of spherical particles in the nanometer and submicron size range by applying cumulant analysis and contin algorithm in dynamic light scattering

Determination of particle size is one of the major needs in the industry and biotechnology. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is a widely used technique for determining size distribution of spherical particle in nanometer and submicron size range. In this method, there are different algorithms for determining the size and size distribution of particles, which are selected according to the required...

Artifcial neural network approach for the prediction of terminal falling velocity of non-spherical particles through Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids

The investigation of the terminal falling velocity of non-spherical particles is currently one of the most promising topics in sedimentation technology due to its great signifcance in many separation processes. In this study, the potential of Artifcial Neural Networks (ANNs) for the prediction of nonspherical particles terminal falling velocity through Newtonian and nonNewtonian (power law) liq...

Synthesis of Silica/Polystyrene Nanocomposite Particles by Miniemulsion Polymerization

Miniemulsion polymerization is one of heterogeneous polymerization method that can be effectively used to synthesis of various novel organic-inorganic nanocomposite particles. This method can provide opportunity of good incorporation between the polymer and inorganic phases in the formed submicrometer-sized particles. In this article, we report preparation polystyrene/silica nanocomposite p...
